The countdown to New Year’s Resolutions is on. I know I know, we’re still two weeks away from Christmas, but I wanted to jump start your thinking regarding what you want to accomplish during your next trip around the sun. To aide my inspiration I’m going to call on one of my favorite quotes of all time, “comfort should scare you.”
I know it doesn’t give you the goosebumps like some quotes, but this quote in my opinion is equally inspiring. Why? To put it simply, when we’re too comfortable we stop growing. We stop taking risks. We stop intentionally living our lives and become creatures of habit. When we’re creatures of habit, we stop being able to acclimate to new experiences, people, things and/or feelings. We only seek out things that bring us comfort or the things that we understand. In doing so we stop seizing the day. We forget that life is a gift and we begin to waste time. We become so comfortable that we stop growing and start dying.
When we get too comfortable, we become gamblers. But instead of money, we’re gambling our time. We’re believing that we have more time to change, more time to spend time, more time to take that trip, to climb that mountain, etc. We get so caught up in being comfortable that we lose sight of who we are and who we want to be at our core.
But we don’t have time. The only time we’re guaranteed is today. So my tip to you is to plan resolutions and create goals that take you out of your comfort zone. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Commit to yourself that you will no longer strive for comfort but you will be a defector and strive to live a full life. One that you designed for you and that lives up to your wildest dreams.
Sending light your way,
