When was the last time you picked up a book? I hear it all of the time time “I don’t read books” and it’s a damn shame. Reading has played a fundamental role in my overall learning and success. Reading is a way to clear your head, stimulate different thoughts and grow your perspective of the world. It’s so amazingly powerful in the way that it can reduce stress and anxiety and give us the reprieve that we need from the real world. Today I want to share with you books that have helped me tremendously. They have helped me feel powerful when I felt powerless and confident in the moments of doubt.
Like the saying goes, “if you’re not growing, you’re dying”. How can you grow today?
The 4 Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Miguel Ruiz
If I could marry a book, it would be this. It sat on my shelf for a year before I finally picked it up and read it and I was definitely kicking myself for not reading it earlier. The book offers your four rules that you can implement into your life to start feeling empowered and confident. The depth around each rule is thought provoking and challenges your perspective. At the end of reading it I wanted to make it a mandatory book to read for everyone as I truly believe it’s life changing. It can help you get out of your head, let go of the fear of judgement, and be happy with your decisions and life, to name a few benefits.
Daring Greatly by Brene Brown
I would say that any book by Brene Brown is life changing and I promise you that when you’re done reading you will likely want to be best friends with Brene. Her writing style is easy to digest as it feels like she’s reading your brain and knows exactly what you’re going through. In the book you will learn to embrace vulnerability as a cure to fight shame. Vulnerability is a powerful emotion to embrace that can help us connect with others, be confident, combat fear and cultivate self worth. Who doesn’t want that?
The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho
This amazing story highlights the journey of a Santiago, a young shepherd boy. This story showcases his journey to overcome fears and follow his own dreams. For the reader, it empowers us to let go of the fear of failing and to honor our own Personal Legend, something that few people do. If you’re looking for a book to empower you to start living life by your terms, let go of the fear of failure and find your own unique happiness. This is it.
Who Moved My Cheese? By Spencer Johnson
A quick read that is easy to relate to. To sum up the story it shows how four unique beings approach life when things go as unplanned or things change abruptly. It’s a great read for those looking to reflect on how they respond to change as it helps you approach the events at life and work that you can’t control more objectively and less emotionally. I think this is a great read for leaders because they’re often the ones that have to empower others to buy into change.
